You can now stay at a cherry-blossom themed Airbnb in Tokyo

By Adenekan

Tokyo is a visual dreamworld where traditional design and bold innovation create a fusion of eye-catching aesthetics. When it comes to accommodation, the choices are as colourful as the city itself with a host of capsule hotels, trendy hostels and design-forward abodes to pick from. One that’s currently catching the attention of travellers to the Japanese capital is the overwhelmingly pink cherry-blossom themed Airbnb in the ‘anything goes’ Harajuku district.

This Moshi Moshi Room is an Airbnb apartment that’s run by the same people behind the Moshi Moshi Box, the famous rainbow-coloured tourist information centre for the Shibuya area. The ‘Sakura’ (cherry blossom) room is the first concept room hosted by Moshi Moshi Rooms, with plans to introduce more ahead of the 2020 Olympics. In the Sakura room, you can sleep under a blooming cherry-blossom tree all year long (even when the flowers aren’t in season) thanks to the giant illuminated cherry-blossom tree that’s built over the bed, complete with violet and pink neon lights.

The room can accommodate up to six people and has a kitchen – which continues the pink theme but on a softer note – a small bathroom, a make-up area and a lemon and lime-coloured balcony where guests can make use of the BBQ area and soak up the atmosphere from the pulsating city below.

The location is pretty handy for tourists looking for a central location as it’s right by Takeshita-dori, Tokyo’s famous fashion bazaar, and within walking distance of Tokyo’s grand Shintō shrine Meiji-dori, the Ura-Harajuku area, the tree-lined fashion boulevard of Omote-sando, and the New National Stadium where some of the 2020 Olympics games will take place.

Rooms start from US$327 (€285/£257) per night. For more information, see here.
