You can have a dream ceremony in this Italian castle for only €100

By Adenekan

Celebrating a wedding or a birthday in a fairytale-like castle might seem like something unattainable, but there’s one small village in Italy where it’s actually possible…without breaking the bank.

Roccascalegna is a village in the province of Chieti in the region of Abruzzo. The village is small, with a population of about 1200 people, but it does have its own castle, the medieval Castle of Roccascalegna. It’s known as the Castle in the Sky because of its location on a rocky ledge that overlooks the valley that goes from the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea. Because of its breathtaking scenery, it has been used before as the set for the movie Tale of Tales, directed in 2015 by Matteo Garrone and starring Salma Hayek and Vincent Cassel.

Now, the mayor of Roccascalegna is offering the castle for private ceremonies and events for the symbolic price of €100 (US$113). It can host from civil and religious weddings to meetings in its rooms, from the towers to the dungeons— the staff can also arrange a catering of local dishes to better appreciate the region’s culinary specialities.

The initiative, as the mayor himself explained in a statement, aims to put the village on the radar of people who are looking for unique places and bring some more income to the area. Its beautiful architecture isn’t the only thing the castle has to offer— according to the staff and local tales, there’s also the ghost of a 17th century baron haunting its halls. Truly, the stuff of fairytales.

If you’d like to get in touch with the castle of Roccascalegna, you can do so through the official website here.
