There is nothing more fun than going on a well deserved vacation and especially a cruise. There are dozens of different cruise options that are typically available from Caribbean cruises to Mediterranean ones. There are even cruises that go all the way to Alaska and even further.
The truth is, the question of what to pack fora cruise completely depends on where the cruise is going as well as each of the destinations. Most relatively short cruises stop at a handful of different ports and the weather and conditions of these specific ports need to be kept in mind. For example, preparations for exploring Alaska would be quite different than a stop in Mexico.
With that said, there are a few things that should be packed, no matter the destination. The first of these are any necessary medications. Many people think that they can find their medication at a local pharmacy during a stop or even on the cruise ship. However, this is just asking for trouble since different countries have different policies on selling medication etc.
Also, there is a good chance that the required medication isn’t even available at another country. So, it is best to pack all the medication that is not only needed for the duration of the trip but also extra in case anything happens and some gets lost or mistakenly thrown away.
Next, sufficient undergarments are another thing that should be packed. Unfortunately, many people don’t pack enough undergarments because they forget that they’re on vacation and will likely need to change more than once or twice per day. This is mainly due to frequent visits to the pool, beach, outings etc. So, be sure to walk with much more than is necessary, just to be on the safe side.
Thirdly, sunscreen is another item that should be packed, especially if the cruise is heading to the Caribbean or any other place where there’s a lot of sunshine. It is important to test the sunscreen before taking it on the cruise to ensure there aren’t any adverse skin reactions. Remember, there are usually lots of fun water activities on the boat and sunscreen should be worn to prevent sunburn.
Be sure and pack a couple of swimsuits. As mentioned above, most cruise ships have at least one pool, but in most cases they have a few pools. So, having enough swimsuits to last the entire cruise is important. It is best to walk with a few different types of swimsuits with at least one or two offering more coverage and at least one rash guard.
Always go with at least one formal suit or cocktail dress. Most cruise ships have a captain’s dinner which is definitely not to be missed. The dress code is formal to semi formal, so make sure to be prepared.
These are just the basics so you know what to pack for a cruise so that you can have a great time, no matter the destination. However, no matter what’s in the suitcase, always remember to have fun and enjoy the cruise as much as possible.
