This travel onesie will upgrade your journey with 15 comfort-boosting features

By Adenekan

Deciding what to wear on a flight can be a bit of a conundrum. Jeans are too stiff, leggings are too tight and pyjamas are unacceptable in most cases. Thankfully someone has taken the hassle out of airport style with a travel onesie that features up to 15 clever design quirks, including an inflatable hood and neck pillow, a sleep mask and a zipper at the rear for bathroom breaks.

Oslo and East London-based leisurewear brand Onepiece wants to make travelling as comfortable as possible with their Inflatable Travel Jumpsuit. They hope that people in economy will feel like they’re travelling first class with all the comfort-boosting features the jumpsuit contains. It boasts over 15 features, notably the inflatable hood and neck pillow that provides 360-degree support. It has a pull-down hood and eye mask for sleeping, a rear exit zipper for bathroom breaks, detachable chest pockets to store travel documents and over-the-hand folded sleeves and thumb-holes.

“In building our empire, we’ve traveled over 2.5 million air miles; from Norway to London to Sydney to LA, always in our Onepiece jumpsuits. From 2014 we began development on a travel jumpsuit to address some of the impractical issues that our original product held. It took tonnes of samples, rigorous testing and even more miles of travel,” said Onepiece co-founder, Thomas Adams. “The biggest issue with long-haul travel that we wanted to address was the inability to get comfy and enjoy uninterrupted sleep in economy class.” That’s why the company integrated these design quirks into the jumpsuit. Adams calls it the “Swiss army knife of travel products.”

The company launched a crowdfunding campaign and raised £100,000 (US$131,095), which has beaten its target of £15,000 (US$19,664) considerably. “The feedback has been incredible,” marketing manager Zoe McDonnell told Lonely Planet. “We’ve had lots of pledgers message us with comments of how excited they are to receive the product, and lots of suggestions on how we can improve the product, which is why we launched it on Kickstarter in the first place – so we could embrace customer feedback, before releasing the final product.”

Through feedback, Onepiece’s design team has made some slight adjustments, including the addition of earphone straps for Bluetooth AirPods (or similar) embedded in the neck. They’ve sewn eyelets under sleeves, under the hood and in the crotch for extra ventilation and they’ve removed the zipper from the neck pillow to minimise any discomfort. Initially, they had planned to include an additional sleeping mask with head stabiliser that can be strapped to the headrest of the wearer’s train or plane seat but they’re unsure if it will feature in the final product as it “may prove invasive to the seat in front.”

The unisex product is made of premium cotton with soft brushed lining, it’s available in black and midnight blue and comes in sizes XXS – XXL. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is US$269 (£205/€236).
