A new arts complex and holistic centre is due to open on November 30 in the jungle of Tulum, and it will be dedicated to creative pursuits. Azulik Uh May is part of the Azulik eco-friendly luxury resort, and it has just been completed at the core of the Yucatan Peninsula by social entrepreneur and founder, Eduardo Neira, better known as Roth.

The new Mexican complex will encompass an array of creative spaces, including an art space, a lab dedicated to fashion and design, recording studios and medical and healing facilities. There will also be an arts-and-crafts school called Enchanting Transformation, which will bring together the local Mayan population, artists in residence, international students and scholars.
The design of the building is sprawling natural forms that appear to naturally grow from the ground, floating bridges and snake-like paths. Inspired by the natural environment, the highlight is a 16-metre-high dome made of concrete, which resembles the bejuca, a vine-like plant native to the region.

The new centre expands upon Roth’s vision that began with his ecologically-inspired resort, Azulik Tulum, and the adjacent art space Ik Lab Tulum. All have been built to ensure they leave no carbon footprint.

“We aim to create a community of world leaders, influential minds, celebrities, visionaries, scientists and philanthropists,” says Roth. “This unique integration of ancestral knowledge, technological innovation, applied sustainability, practised spirituality and collective experiences will culminate in new ways of learning, creating and healing, thus propelling human evolution.”
