Occupying a 15-acre site in the wine country town, English artist Bruce Munro’s Field of Light at Sensorio installation has been several years in the making. The solar-powered immersive art piece comprises 58,800 shimmering lights in the form of stemmed spheres lit by fibre-optics. They glow in varying hues and gently illuminate the landscape in subtle blooms of morphing colour.

Munro is best known for large-scale light-based artworks, principally inspired by his continuous study of natural light and his curiosity for shared human experiences. His first iteration of Field of Light was created in 2004 in his own home field in Wiltshire.

Since then, he has been invited to temporarily recreate it in many forms, on water and through forests, in urban squares, on building roofs, and over rocky buttes. He aims to transcend time and space by inspiring moments of awareness, inviting viewers to contemplate a world larger and more mysterious than their own existence.

He created an international sensation with a stunning Field of Light installation in Uluru in 2016 that was met with instant acclaim. Involving 326 miles of optic fibre, it has been seen so far by over 200,000 people and will remain on display until December 2020.

Sensorio’s exhibit will be larger in size than any other Munro exhibition internationally and marks his first US exhibit entirely run on solar power. It offers visitors the experience of immersing themselves in a breathtaking otherworld, and other amenities include refreshments and a special terrace option offering the opportunity to view while dining.
