The world’s largest cruise residence features a $200,000 bed

By Adenekan

Regent Seven Seas’ Splendor, which bills itself as the world’s most exclusive residence at sea, has gone above and beyond to give a whole new meaning to the term ‘luxury’. Ahead of its February 2020 debut, the liner has released details of its brand new suite, the largest and most luxurious of any cruise ship.

Everyone has come across a place at one time and thought “it would be really nice to stay here.” While the price tag of Regent Seven Seas’ Splendor’s Regent Suite is pure fantasy (US$11,000/£8390 per night for two), it doesn’t hurt to marvel at its boundary-pushing opulence and imagine what it would be like to sleep in one of the world’s most expensive beds at sea, indulge in massages on tap and drink in glorious orange-gold sunsets framed by the most glittering shorelines in the world.

Perched on the 14th deck of Seven Seas’ Splendor, the Regent Suite boasts a roomy 4443 square-feet of space and can accommodate up to six guests. It features two bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths and an in-suite spa where guests can unwind on heated loungers in a glass-enclosed solarium or let off steam in a private sauna. Regent Suite guests also enjoy the perks of unlimited spa treatments; whenever they feel a knot of tension forming there’ll be someone on hand to knead it away.

A much-talked about feature is the suite’s custom, hand-crafted Vividus bed from the Hästens brand, which cost a whopping US$200,000 (£152,500). The king-size bed is being built by four master artisans at the Hästens workshop in Köping, Sweden. Renowned for producing some of the most comfortable (and expensive) beds in the world, Hästens utilises materials such as Swedish pine for the frame, soundproof flax, cotton, wool, and horsehair for the mattress.

Regent’s president and CEO, Jason Montague said Regent Suite will “astonish luxury travellers” with its carefully considered details.

“In the Regent Suite, whether you’re entertaining friends in your elegant living room, enjoying caviar or lobster in your dining room, relaxing on your handcrafted Hästens Vividus bed, delighting in unlimited spa services in your personal in-suite treatment area, or exploring a seaside village with your personal car and guide coordinated by your dedicated head butler, the holistic experience represents luxury perfected.”

Additional Regent Suite perks include butler service, a personal car with a driver and guide in every port, and first-class domestic airfare. Standard shore excursions, alcoholic beverages, gratuities and unlimited Wi-Fi are among other inclusions. Passengers also have the option to pay up for premium tours.
