If you’re looking for somewhere to pop the question, you may be inspired by a survey that has revealed the most popular destinations to propose in the world. Dating site EliteSingles asked 1600 people for their opinion on proposal destinations, romantic getaways and their thoughts on the modern proposal in the 21st century.

Several romantic European cities were at the top of the list, although it was interesting to see that “at home” came in sixth place. Here are the most popular proposal destinations, as voted by those surveyed.
1. Venice

It is no surprise that beautiful Venice came top of the list of romantic proposal spots. Romantic proposal spots include the Piazza San Marco and Grand Canal, and of course, a gondola under the Italian city’s fuschia-pink sunsets has to be one of the most perfect places imaginable to ask that most important question.
2. Paris

Paris is known as the City of Love for good reason. The graceful French city has always inspired romance, and everywhere you go you’ll see loved-up couples laze in its manicured gardens, get intimate in candlelit wine bars and stroll along the Seine arm-in-arm at sunset.

Hawaii is known for its beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and it has become synonymous with paradise thanks to its glittering sandy beaches, technicolor coral reefs and backdrop of the cobalt blue Pacific Ocean. As tropical getaways go, Hawaii is the perfect destination for getting down on one knee.
4. The Bahamas

Renowned as a maritime playground, the Bahamas comprises more than 700 islands and 2400 cays. Most are uninhabited, and all are fringed by spectacular coral and fathomless ocean trenches. From the grit and bustle of funky Nassau to the vast mangroves of Andros, there’s an astonishing array of beaches, reefs, forests and historic towns to be discovered, so you’ll be spoiled for choice around the perfect proposal destination.

Though it’s Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu or Big Island is one of the tropics’ best-kept secrets. To the south, Savusavu entices yachts, divers and dreamers looking for a tropical idyll, and is an ideal place to pop the question. The rest of ‘Big Island’ is given over to sugarcane and copra plantations, hideaway villages, mountain passes streaming with waterfalls and endless swathes of forest.
