While there was great excitement when Southwest Airlines launched its flights between California and Hawaii back in March, there is now even better news for those who wish to visit the tropical island.
Floating all by itself in the middle of the Pacific, Hawaii is a very popular destination for those seeking sun, sea and beauty. Southwest’s original plan was to launch flights from Oakland, San Diego, San José and Sacramento in the US to its most popular visitor destinations, Honolulu, Kahului, Kona and Lihue on Kauai. It then entered the inter-island market by adding four daily round trips between Honolulu, the birthplace of former US president, Barack Obama, and Kahului in April, and four daily round trips between Honolulu and Kona earlier this month.
The airline has now announced on its Facebook page that the city of Hilo on Big Island will become the fifth Hawaiian airport that it will serve. It is anticipated that this will include direct flights between Hilo and mainland US, as well as the introduction of four daily flights between Honolulu and Hilo later this year, which will be great for those interested in island-hopping. Hawaii is highly sought-after by travellers because its sunrises and sunsets are spectacular and life is lived outdoors there.
The latest flight announcement by Southwest brings more choice to the market for travellers. It also makes it more affordable as once it was known that Southwest was entering the market, other airlines began lowering their prices.
