Middle East’s first outdoor zorbing track opens in Dubai’s adventure hub

By Adenekan

Daredevils visiting Dubai can now fling themselves down a hill while wrapped in an inflatable bubble ball, as a 200 metre-long outdoor zorbing course has now opened in Hatta, a small town in the emirate of Dubai near the Omani border that’s quickly becoming known as a hub of adventure activities.

The track, the first in the Middle East, is run by Gogravity, which is part of Hatta Wadi Hub, an adventure outfit that also offers mountain biking, archery, axe throwing, rope courses, zip lines, downhill karting and even a human slingshot.

Hatta has been quietly making its way into the limelight to promote itself as an ecotourism destination, and a huge Hollywood-style sign now spells out ‘HATTA’ in the Hajar Mountains that surround the town. Brand new Airstream-looking glamping trailers are starting to welcome overnight guests. The Hatta Mountain Bike Trail is up and running, with 50km of single-track mountain bike trails graded using a colour-code system like skiing (green, blue, red and black), and the first phrase of the Hatta Hiking Project, which links up a number of tourist attractions in the town, was completed in 2017.

The zorb course is open daily from 9am to 6.30pm and costs just Dhs50 (about US$13.60) for a single ride, a very reasonable price considering Dubai’s usually ritzy reputation.
