We tend to think of actors flying first class and living in five-star luxury, which is why we’re loving a road trip post shared by Games of Thrones star, Jason Momoa.
The 39-year-old actor, who played Daenerys Targaryen’s husband, Khal Drogo, during season one of the hit HBO series, shared a throwback photo that was taken years ago in Ireland. Explaining that he was “too broke” to fly home” during a break in filming, Jason came up with an alternative plan. Along with his best friend, Brian Andrew Mendoza, who worked as a producer at HBO at the time – they now run the production company, Pride of Gypsies, together – he rented a van and took to the road.
Illustrated with a picture that shows Jason lying on an inflatable mattress in the back of the van in a parking lot in Donegal, the actor explains that they drove around “beautiful amazing Ireland” searching for the greatest pint of Guinness. “Turns out it’s perfect everywhere,” he said. “So many wonderful people and stories. I treasure those times. It was the simplest moments I remember the most.”
Jason is married to actress Lisa Bonet, who is best known for her role as Denise Huxtable in The Cosby Show. They have two children together, Nakoa-Wolf and Lola Iolani, and Jason is step-dad to Lisa’s daughter, actress Zoë Kravitz. The actor admitted that he was homesick and missed his family in the Instagram post caption, as he is currently in Budapest shooting the film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s best-selling sci-fi classic, Dune. According to media reports, he has enjoyed a Guinness there too, and has been captured strolling by the Basilica of St Stephen and getting a tattoo.
