It’s official – JetBlue is launching flights to Europe

By Adenekan

JetBlue – which was just named the second-best airline in the US – has confirmed what many had been speculating: the airline is launching flights to Europe.

Starting in 2021, the airline will launch multiple daily flights to London, its first European destination. The flights will leave from New York and Boston, but JetBlue says it is still evaluating what London airport it will fly into.

While there are plenty of flights between the cities already, the addition of JetBlue into the market could help reduce the price of a transatlantic ticket. Joanna Geraghty, president and chief operating officer of the airline, said in a statement: “The fares being charged today by airlines on these routes, specifically on the premium end, are enough to make you blush.”

JetBlue’s reputation in the US is based on the fact that it offers lower fares than legacy airlines, without cutting back on all the amenities like some budget airlines. It boasts the most legroom of any US carrier in economy seats, a TV on every seatback, complimentary snacks and soft drinks, and more. JetBlue is hoping to “raise the bar on what travellers can expect from a low-cost carrier,” offering more benefits than other budget airlines can for transatlantic flights, without the high prices of legacy carriers.

The airline will offer a version of its Mint premium experience on its transatlantic flights, which will be on a single-aisle Airbus A321 and will feature more lie-flat seats. While the flights won’t start for a couple of years, that will give you plenty of time to plan the perfect trip to London.
