An immersive Hamilton exhibition is coming to Chicago, featuring an audio tour narrated by the Broadway musical star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. The exhibition will launch in April, before travelling to other cities, and will tell the Founding Father’s story in rich detail with plenty of high-tech, interactive displays.
If you’ve seen the Broadway smash and still want more, your appetite for Hamilton will be satisfied with a new exhibition set to open in Chicago’s Northerly Island on 27 April. Originally scheduled to open in November 2018, the opening date was stalled due to “unexpected delays in shipping” and “extreme weather conditions in Chicago,” according to reports.
Hamilton: The Exhibition has been designed by the musical’s creative team and developed in consultation with history experts at Yale and Harvard to paint a more detailed portrayal of the Founding Father’s story that couldn’t be squeezed into a two-hour musical. Hamilton star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is also taking part in the exhibition, or to be more specific, his voice, will guide visitors through the experience through audio and video displays.
Visitors will pass through more than 20 rooms, hallways and galleries with high-tech sets and music from the show. Some of the features include a scale model of New York in 1773, a reconstruction of George Washington’s war tent and the Weehawken, New Jersey dueling grounds. Like the musical, the exhibition will start with Hamilton’s childhood in St Croix and follow his life in New York, chronicling the American Revolution and the creation of the United States of America, as well as examining Hamilton’s legacy in 2019.
Hamilton: The Exhibition will open on 27 April. Tickets start from $39.50 (€29.80) and can be purchased here.
