The owner of floating bar in Jamaica is taking his first holiday in eight years and Virgin Holidays is looking for someone to fill his spot for a week, with flights, spending money and accommodation all covered.
If you want a break a from pulling pints in your local boozer to go and pour piña coladas and rum punches on a floating bar in the Caribbean Sea, we have just the ticket. Floyd’s Pelican Bar is looking for a someone to manage the bar for a week, with flights and four-star accommodation paid for by Virgin Holidays, along with £1000 (US$1282) spending money.
The job requires candidates to commute by boat or paddle board; chat to locals and tourists over an ice-cold bottle of local beer, and throw the occasional fish to the resident pelicans, a spokesperson said. They will also have to manage the music “to ensure chilled beats are playing at all time” and welcome passing boats looking for a refreshment with a smile.
You’ll be providing holiday cover for manager and local fisherman Floyd Forbes who is taking his first holiday in eight years. He built Floyd’s Pelican Bar from scratch in 2001. Although he spends every day in paradise, he hasn’t had a break since opening the bar, which looks like a shipwreck from a distance. Inside it’s filled with quirky memorabilia and great views, serving little more than beer, rum, freshly-caught fish and the odd snack.
Model-turned-publican Jodie Kidd, who will be helping Virgin Holidays judge the applications, said: “I love being a pub landlady here in the UK, but if I had the opportunity to take the best of the job and do it all from an island paradise in the Caribbean, I wouldn’t say no. This is an incredible chance for anyone looking to combine the best job in the world with one of the best overseas destinations – and giving a local legend a well-deserved holiday – so what are you waiting for?”
The successful applicant will get return economy Virgin Atlantic flights to Jamaica, seven nights’ accommodation in a 4 star hotel, the chance to work at Floyd’s Pelican Bar, and £1000 spending money. You’ll need to have bar and restaurant experience to apply.
Sounds good? You can apply online between now and 28 May.
