Connect with your family history through a vacation package from Ireland’s national airline that helps you unearth your Irish roots with the help of a genealogist.
The desire to track down our genealogical background is being facilitated through a new trend in travel known as heritage or ancestral tourism. Ireland is especially ripe for it. Not surprising when you consider that 80 million people worldwide claim Irish descent, including some 39 million Americans.
If you’ve always wondered where your family story began, you can start piecing the puzzle together with the new ‘Discover Your Roots’ package from Aer Lingus. It includes a six, seven or eight-night stay in Ireland with flights, accommodation and car rental. On top of that, you’ll also receive admission to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and a 90-minute private consultation with a genealogist at the Irish Family History Centre, tapping into their vast array of resources to unearth your Irish roots.
Your journey will begin with a two-night stay in Dublin in a four-star hotel. From there you can customise your stay to suit your heritage, travelling to the part of Ireland where you know you have roots (if you don’t know, your genealogist should be able to guide you in the right direction) and staying in local accommodation. It’s all covered in the package.
Prices for the Discover Your Roots packages start at $999 (£790) per person for a six-night trip, including round-trip airfare (economy class), two nights in a four-star hotel in Dublin, four nights in B&Bs around the country (locations depend on your customised route), a 90-minute consultation with a genealogy expert at the Irish Family History Centre, admission to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and a six-night car rental.
