Fancy a romantic dinner with caviar and lobster five metres under water? The Nemo 33 diving centre has a unique underwater restaurant, so if you’re in Brussels and have a taste for unique and adventurous gastronomic experiences, grab your diving suit and book a deep dinner.
The Nemo 33 diving pits go down up to 35 metres. That’s 2500 cubic-metres of water heated at 33°C. It was the deepest pool in Europe until 2014, when Deep-Joy Y-40 opened in Montegrotto Terme, Italy.
To dive into Nemo 33’s deep dinner cocoon-like bubble, you’ll need to book two weeks in advance. Make sure you get there early enough to fill in the paperwork and remember to bring your diving certificate, if you have one. Don’t sweat it if you don’t bring your diving – or swimsuit – as the centre’s shop offers a wide range of aquatic gear. Once the documents are properly filled out, a member of staff will lead you to the locker rooms for which you’ll need a 50-cent coin.
If you have a diving certificate, you’re free to dive at your ease and you can head to the restaurant bubble at dinner time. Beginners will be given an introduction class, after which they’ll be led to the sphere. Dinner usually consists of lobster, caviar and champagne and is brought to you by professional divers. The price for autonomous divers (min. 1* CMAS, Open Water Diver or Indoor Diver) is €99 (US$85) and comprises a 45’ dive followed by the dinner. Beginners pay €148 (US$128) which also covers the one hour-introduction.
Don’t leave this experience for your last evening in town if you’re planning on travelling by plane; remember it’s not recommended to fly for 24 hours following a dive.
