Check out this gorgeous colourful hotel in Mauritius

By Adenekan

If nothing will make your holiday brighter than a splash of colour, then check out a new hotel that has opened on the African island of Mauritius.

SALT of Palmar is the first hotel from the new hospitality brand SALT. It is located on Palmar beach the east coast of Mauritius, welcoming guests to enjoy a colourful space where they can relax in beds that face the sea.

The hotel’s incredible look is a collaboration between local Mauritian architect Jean-François Adam and the French artist Camile Walala. With an emphasis on local and sustainable elements, the hotel is based in a geometric, riad-like building on the edge of a white sand beach.

The unique style is due to the fact that the interiors were not created by an interior designer, but instead by an artist who brought a bright splash of colour to the hotel. To gain inspiration, Walala travelled around Mauritius to meet local artisans and soak up the colours of the island – from the beautiful water, sunsets and brightly painted houses – to create the design of the hotel. Inside, guests will also find artisanal aspects, like the tableware, which was handmade by a local ceramist.

According to the company, “SALT of Palmar connects modern explorers with communities and their way of life, which makes for meaningful travel experiences.” Guests can take part in a skill swap programme, where they will work with local producers, designers and artisans. The guests will also get to sample food from the restaurant, which is “fresh, local, homemade, home-grown, seasonal and zero-waste.”

Jean‐François said in a statement: “Everything about the hotel is designed to bring people together. From the communal tables in the bakery, restaurant and beach bar, to Mauritius’ first rooftop bar and the inviting spaces in the SALT equilibrium spa, it is all about gathering and sharing stories of travels and enjoyment of this incredible location.”
