If you missed out on Primavera Sound tickets this year, fear not. It’s been announced that the Spanish music festival is to host an American edition of the revered festival in Los Angeles in 2020.
The new Live Nation event will continue with its commitment to complete gender parity in its bookings, having just waved off a weekend in Barcelona‘s Parc del Forum featuring acts such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Janelle Monae and Robyn, among others.
The new iteration of the festival will be held at Los Angeles State Historic Park, located in Chinatown, over 19 and 20 September. While the lineup isn’t confirmed for next year’s stint in LA, the name alone should be enough to continue to draw an international audience.
“We had been thinking about crossing the Atlantic for some time now and, in particular, about Los Angeles,” Gabi Ruiz, the director and founder of Primavera Sound told the Los Angeles Times. “Los Angeles is a city that has always fascinated [us]. Its vitality, its appeal, its forward thinking. We feel that in some ways, in Barcelona, we share the sensations and way of experiencing things with Los Angeles.”
“We have been competing with the market of festivals not only in Europe but also in the United States for a long time already,” Ruiz said. “We know that we have an increasing American audience at our festival in Barcelona.”
The announcement comes ahead of the festival’s 20th anniversary next year, with the festival tweeting: “20 years of growing; 20 years with music in the foreground; 20 years of unforgettable experiences. Now we look to the future and we see it clearer than ever.”
