Avengers’ fans really want to go to Thor’s homeland – here’s where it was filmed

By Adenekan

With the release of the movie Avengers: Endgame, fans’ interest has been sparked in Thor’s new home in the quaint fishing village of New Asgard. While there has been a surge in online flights searching for the Norwegian village, according to travel booking site, Kiwi.com, alas it is actually fictional. Those who wish to check out where it was filmed can head to St Abbs in Scotland and Georgia in the US instead.

The flight booking site says that a ‘significant number’ of searches have been made for the coastal location depicted in the latest Marvel superhero film. In it, the Asgardian refugees and Sakaaran gladiators settle in the Norwegian community of New Asgard. In reality, the small fishing village of St Abbs was the filming location, it’s a peaceful little community with a picturesque harbour nestled below the cliffs.

Production crews spent six weeks in Scotland filming scenes for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which were being shot simultaneously. Some filming was done in Edinburgh, and then the action changed to the Scottish seaside town in April 2017.  The only road in to St Abbs was closed to everyone except locals as production crews moved in, as well as actors like Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner, and Valkyrie actress Tessa Thompson.

Much of Avengers: Endgame was shot at Pinewood Atlanta Studios, but other filming locations included The Gulch area, Fairlie Poplar and Woodruff Parklook in Downtown Atlanta, as well as Piedmont Park and the Georgia International Convention Center.
