An airline is offering discounts to US visitors if they have Mexican DNA

By Adenekan

One airline is offering US visitors discounts based on how much Mexican DNA they have in their genes. Mexico’s national carrier, Aeromexico, has released ‘DNA Discounts’, a funny new video ad that grants American travellers reduced rates on fares to Mexico based on their percentage of Mexican heritage.

In the video, which was released by Aeromexico’s advertising agency Ogilvy, it is explained that while Mexico’s top destination to visit is the US followed by Canada in second place, the same doesn’t apply in reverse. The video-makers decided to travel to Wharton in Texas to ask some residents there why they wouldn’t consider visiting Mexico? Some interviewees claimed to dislike Mexico, although they confessed to enjoying Mexican products like burritos and tequila, while others gave an emphatic “No way!” to the idea of visiting.

The video-makers then conducted DNA tests on those Wharton residents who said they didn’t wish to visit Mexico and presented them with the results. The percentages of Mexican DNA they have in their genes were revealed to them, and in this case, they ranged from three to 22%. It was also explained that 54.4% of those tested had Mexican DNA. The US citizens were then told that Aeromexico would give them a discount to correspond to the result of the DNA test, which appeared to change some formerly reluctant people’s minds about the possibility of visiting Mexico.

The airline concluded by saying that these “DNA discounts” are available on its flights to all US customers through its travel agents. For further information on Aeromexico, please see here.
