Winter can be tough when you don’t have your next getaway planned, but if you want to take some inspiration from the dreamers on Pinterest, it may be time to think about a trip to Tuscany.
The Italian region tops the list for winter getaways that have seen the greatest surge in searches, according to Pinterest. The site, which has more than four billion travel ideas saved to millions of boards, says that Tuscany has seen a 1657% increase in searches.

There’s no doubt that it is one of the quintessential holiday destinations. The sun-drenched Italian region is famous for its local food and wine, drawing in travellers around the world to sample fresh pasta, truffle-laced dishes and, of course, the legendary chargrilled T-bone steak bistecca alla fiorentina.
Tuscany’s capital of Florence is famous as the birthplace of the Renaissance, which means it’s a haven for lovers of art and culture. Visitors will see the red cupola of the Duomo that defines the city’s skyline, and can hit up museums like the Uffizi and the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella to discover the treasures within.
After Tuscany, another classic destinations has seem a similar surge, as searches for Paris grew by 1340%. After that, users were checking out a wide array of different destinations like Coco Cay in the Bahamas (841%), the Czech Republic (723%), Portugal (594%), and the United Arab Emirates (500%).

There’s also a new trend for what people are seeking on a vacation, with searches for “adventure travel” increasing by 556%, while “solo travel” stayed flat. What exactly are people looking for within this category? Fairytale places saw a boost of 314%, swimming holes grew by 260% and abandoned amusement parks by 185%. Luckily travellers torn between Tuscany and an adventure holiday don’t have to compromise. Diving, canyoning, horseback riding and cycling are just some of the more adventurous activities travellers can take part in – without strolling too far from the nearest vineyard.
