Just because you’re leaving Geneva doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to your Swiss holiday so soon – Swiss International Air Lines is offering traditional cheese fondue on flights out of the city so you can enjoy the luxurious lifestyle for just a little bit longer.
The iconic dish will be served up as part of a new menu for the winter season. The fondue is made according to a traditional recipe of 50% Vacherin Fribourg and 50% Gruyère cheese, and is served with bread. For the full experience, you can also add a traditional charcuterie board with dried meats, cured ham and Gruyère salami. The fondue costs 17 Swiss Francs (€15), while the charcuterie board is 15 Swiss Francs (€13). It is available on flights leaving Geneva for Malaga, Athens, Stockholm, Moscow, Gothenburg, Hurghada, Lisbon, St Petersburg and Marrakesh.
If you don’t want to just stop at a cheese fondue, there are also other typical Swiss offerings like a hot chocolate made with real Swiss chocolate, and freshly baked pain au lait served with a Cailler chocolate bar. There will also be traditional Bircher muesli and a special sandwich every month.
While enjoying Swiss cuisine on a flight might sounds like a tantalizing way to spend your flight, some health conscious travellers may want to skip the cheese and chocolate and find something a bit lighter to snack on. If so, consider the advice of a nutritional ‘diet detective’ who recently broke down the nutritional value of some of the top snacks provided by US and Canadian airlines.
