Peek inside Prince Charles and Camilla’s royal residence with this online tour

By Adenekan

You can now peek inside Clarence House, the London home of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall from the comfort of your own home. To celebrate his 70th birthday, the Prince of Wales has teamed up with teamed with Google Arts and Culture to provide virtual tours of the residence that has been in the Windsor family for over 100 years.

Charles has allowed specialist photographers access to the ground floor of Clarence House, providing them with access to some of the principal rooms of his central living quarters used for receptions and other official entertaining. ‘Inside Clarence House’ allows royal fans to take a closer look at the treasures of the royal households, including the impressive artwork that adorn the walls and some of the Prince’s own watercolours.

Viewers can enjoy a 360-degree snoop around the royal residence and and click and zoom into whatever detail catches their eye. In the Library, the table is set for tea with cucumber sandwiches and cakes on display, while in the Garden Room, eagle-eyed viewers should spot a collection of family photographs laid atop the piano. Viewers can also take a virtual tour of some of the rooms of 18th century Dumfries House in Scotland and the grounds of Charles’ country retreat at Highgrove House, Gloucestershire.

This intimate glimpse into the private life of the Prince of Wales is to commemorate his 70th birthday, which he celebrated on Wednesday. As well as the virtual tour, Google has collected 197 high-resolution images of Charles and the royal family, from the prince’s personal collection. The rarely seen photographs create a unique snapshot of his life, from his birth in 1948 to the birth of his youngest grandchild, Prince Louis, earlier this year. Google also teamed up with ten charities connected to the Prince to showcase the heritage, art, craftsmanship and architecture he supports.

The palace has also released official photographs on the eve of the Prince’s birthday, with Charles and Camilla, joined by his children, his daughters-in-law and his grandchildren.

The entire project, called the Charities of the Prince of Wales, can be viewed here.
