When the plans were first released for a luxurious underwater residence in the Maldives, it didn’t seem like it could be a reality. Now after years in the making, it’s finally complete and ready to accept reservations.
The Muraka opens this month at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. The private residence will have a living space looking out over the Indian Ocean while the other half of the residence sits five metres below the water surface, allowing guests a closer look at the surrounding eco-system.
Above water are bedrooms, a bar, dining room, gym, kitchen, staff quarters and a comfortable living space. Below the waves, there’s another king-sized bedroom, bathroom and a living area where you can relax securely surrounded by water.
As you might expect, such a luxurious residence has plenty of additional perks too. You’ll have access to a 24/7 butler service and the staff will also be able to guide you through any of the additional experiences on offer as well.
Before your visit, guests will also work with the reservations team to personalise every element of their experience. There are four ‘menus’ to choose from, dedicated to food, wellness, adventure and cultural experiences. Among the options are to go on a dive with their own film crew and sample menus from their own personal chef.
With such a beautiful ocean surrounding it, it’s unsurprising that the Maldives is home to the world’s first underwater restaurant Ithaa which is at the same Conrad resort. Since then more underwater restaurants have sprung up in the country and Europe’s first one is set to join in early 2019.
