A stopover in Doha is common for many travellers making their way across the world, but Qatar is hoping to make it more enticing to stay for a while with the launch of the ‘Summer in Qatar’ (SiQ) festival, which kicked off earlier this month.
Launched by the Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC), the programme, which runs until 16 August, is partnering with a range of organisations across the country to offer tourists events, deals and discounts across a wide range of travel, entertainment, hospitality and sightseeing options.
To make it easier to stay for a visit, Qatar has changed the visa rules for citizens across 80 countries, who will no longer need to apply for a visa or pay to enter the country. There is also a 25% discount on Qatar Airways flights to Doha from 160 destinations worldwide, plus special stopover packages for long-haul customers, including discounted luxury hotel stays and sightseeing tours of the city and desert.
Once in the country, you’ll find a busy programme of entertainment on your doorstep: live performances, indoor activities, sports and edutainment, special exhibitions as well as retail promotions across nine malls.
If you purchase a ‘Your Plus’ or ‘Family Culture Pass’ from any of the museums operated by Qatar Museums, you will receive further discounts across a range of activities – like jumping on a trampoline at Bounce; a visit to kids’ entertainment destinations Megapolis or Circusland; an afternoon at indoor theme park, Summer Entertainment City, or a seat in the audience at any of the summer’s live shows and festivals, from Doha Comedy Festival to Hello Kitty Live.
