Moleskine’s iconic black notebooks have long been a must-pack for the self-reflective traveler, and with the debut of its new accessories collection, the company is expanding into uncharted territory while still keeping in touch with its roots.
Officially launched on 17 June, the Movers of Experience line comprises four mini-collections featuring hard-shell suitcases, backpacks, city notebooks, and journals. “This set of objects represents a natural evolution for Moleskine,” says chief marketing officer Roberto Lobetti Bodoni. “We have always been about providing tools that embrace and support a creative, nomadic lifestyle, and we strongly believe in the transformative power of ordinary and extraordinary journeys.”
The accessories collection was created in just under a year, from conception to final product, with dedicated teams devoted to each item. “The Backpack was designed by Giulio Iacchetti, our creative director, and was such a favorite amongst our clients that we decided to create an entire collection in a variety of materials and colors to suit different journeys and uses,” Roberto says. “You can choose the texture and tone that reflects your personality, fill it with whatever you need, and – literally – wear it everywhere.”
With a matte black exterior and a ridged line running the length of the front that’s a callback to the famed notebooks’ elastic closure, as well as a friendly inscription on the handle that reads “travel more,” the suitcase is particularly frequent-flyer friendly. It comes in cabin-size and a larger version that can be checked, both with smooth-rolling wheels, internal organizers, and TSA-compliant combination locks.
But it’s the journals and the city notebooks that adhere closest to the company’s origins. The Traveller Journal includes trip-planning tips and an eight-year calendar for long-term travel goals, and has room to record six long trips or 20 short ones. And, with covers emblazoned with imagery from six international destinations—New York, Paris, Berlin, Rome, London, and Hong Kong—plus city and metro maps, customizable tabs, and and a slate of blank pages inside, the city notebooks are intended as personal guidebooks for travelers to fill in as they go.
“We put together this mix-and-match travel kit to meet the needs of movers everywhere,” Roberto says. “Travel enriches us, allowing ideas to grow and flourish. When we open our eyes and minds on the ‘move,’ we can all become movers of experiences, of mindset and of inspiration.”
