SmarterTravel Spotlight: Yotel Hotel Boston

By Adenekan

World-famous Yotel opened its second U.S. property in Boston in 2017 and clearly saw an opportunity in the market. Locals and travelers love this tech-focused hotel for its desired location, affordability, and “everything you need, nothing that you don’t” mentality.

The Location

Boston’s waterfront Seaport neighborhood is booming and Yotel was one of the first to hit this scene. It’s a popular area for business travelers and there are countless condos and office buildings popping up in the city. Travelers can benefit from new and trendy restaurants and shops within walking distance, as well as access to the city’s Silver Line for public transport.

The Rooms

The rooms at Yotel are on the smaller size, but that’s part of the brand’s mission, to provide lower nightly rates and flexibility for group travel. Yotel’s room design is inspired by the layout and maximized convenience of first-class on an airplane. Like an airplane seat, the beds actually recline, so that you have more floor space in the room when you’re not sleeping. There are a variety of room sizes, ranging from a bunk room to larger suites.

I personally loved the design of the bathrooms, while there is no full-barrier wall between the shower and the room, space is used in a clever way and you feel like you have a lot more room than you actually do.

Dining

The lobby has a welcoming bar with healthy grab-n-go options for food. There is also a locally loved rooftop bar and dining area, popular for brunch or after-work drinks.

What makes Yotel stand apart is its adoption of unique tech, like the hotel’s butler robot, Y2. Yotel also has turned its lobby into a coworking space of sorts, with room for business travelers to spread out as well as private phone booths to take any calls.

Price and How to Book: Nightly rates start at $171 and can be booked on TripAdvisor or on Yotel’s website.
