One company has announced an epic adventure through the arctic wilderness that sees participants retracing World War II insertion routes through extreme weather.

Announced by Trident Adventure, Arctic Warrior 2020 will see travellers going on an eight-day hut-to-hut ski tour from Sweden to Norway and back, starting approximately 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Led by experts that are ex-UK Special Forces, the trip will focus on teaching life-saving skills as participants adapt to the harsh Arctic environment. As well as jumping into icy water, digging snow holes, cross-country skiing and hiking, those taking part will get the chance to visit original Special Operations Executive training bases used by the British during World War II.

Taking place throughout March and April 2020, the experience includes a full-training programme in either the Brecon Beacons Mountains in Wales or in Morocco, and further programmes can be arranged for those that want additional training.
“This is for people that like to be challenged and to have a unique experience that is not found anywhere else. People immediately think jumping into the water when its -20 degrees will be intimidating, but everyone does it. That’s a reflection on the positivity we give out. It’s personal development, stretching peoples comfort zones in a controlled and supported way,” Nick Wildman from Trident Adventure told Lonely Planet Travel News.

It’s not all hard work however, at the end of the day, participants will have the chance to relax in a sauna under the Arctic stars with a beer in hand, and they may even catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis. The company also runs long weekend experiences following WWII escape routes over the Pyrenees mountains, with trips to the Slovenian Alps due to follow.
