The first-ever airport drag brunch is touching down in New Jersey

By Adenekan

File this one under things you don’t normally see post-security. In honor of Pride Month and to support a good cause, an array of dazzling divas is set to descend on Newark Liberty International’s Terminal C for the first-ever airport drag brunch.

The fete will be held on 20 June at the Italian restaurant Novella, with Harmonica Sunbeam handling the hosting duties and Steve Sidewalk deejaying. The spread promises to include drinks like the “Taste the Rainbow,” a mocktail with berries, coconut water, almond syrup, and citrus, alongside pastries from Jacques Torres’s Melange Bakery, but really, the performances are the main course here—and with big-name queens like Jahlissa A. Ross, Pattaya Hart, Fifi Dubois, Caracol Richards, Daesha Richards, and RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Kennedy Davenport on the bill, it promises to be a fabulous morning.

The event comes courtesy of United Airlines and the OTG hospitality group, with proceeds—including any frequent flyer miles redeemed—going toward the Trevor Project, a nonprofit that offers crisis-management and suicide-prevention services to at-risk LGBTQ youth. OTG has guaranteed a minimum donation of US$10,000 to the organization. “This was a tremendous opportunity for us to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community and benefit The Trevor Project,” Eric Brinker, OTG’s VP of experience, said in a statement.

Anxious to snag a seat? Unless you’re an influencer, a member of the media, or a representative of one of the participating organizations, you’ll have to make a bid and hope to win one at auction. But not to fear: even if your luck doesn’t pan out (or your bank account can’t stand up to the pressure), you’ll still have plenty of chances to meet the talent. The queens will be mingling in the terminal before and after the brunch, bringing that Sunday spark to an otherwise mundane day of midweek travel.
