The Caribbean island of St Lucia is hoping to lure tourists with discounted accommodation and activity rates across many of its hotels this summer.
St Lucia is a lush Caribbean paradise offering sunshine, gorgeous beaches, volcanic peaks, dense rainforests and a wealth of undersea wonders. Most of the hotels that line its powder-white sand beaches are of the upscale, all-inclusive variety. It certainly wouldn’t be the first place that springs to mind when thinking “affordable beach holiday” but this year might be different.
The island’s official tourism board recently announced a summer specials promotion with some hotels offering discounts of up to 60% on accommodation costs. There are caveats with some of the promotions, such as travelling within certain time-frames, but most of the discounts are available between now and mid-December. It’s also worth noting that most of the places where deals are on offer are luxury resorts.
There are savings to be made at Hotel Chocolat, a boutique hotel situated on a working cocoa plantation that’s offering discounts of up to 45% in some of its lodges, while the Calabash Hotel and Resort is offering similar discounts of 45% on all-inclusive rates or 50% on bed and breakfast rates. If you book a stay at Ti Kaye Resort and Spa before 31 July and stay between now and 15 December you could bag a 50% discount on all accommodation, plus a further 20% off spa and diving courses.
Over at the adults-only resort Serenity at Coconut Bay, one of the island’s newest hotels, couples can enjoy savings of up to 60% if they stay seven nights or more, alongside extras like butler services and an in-suite couples massage.
You can see the full list of promotions on the St Lucia Tourism Authority website. In the meantime, if you need some Caribbean inspiration you can check out Lonely Planet’s guide to the top 10 experiences in St Lucia.
