If you’re still looking for the perfect place for your summer holiday, maybe you can get some inspiration by looking at the destinations trending on Airbnb.
Everyone knows cities like Rome and Paris and New York are forever popular, but the house- and experience-booking website has pulled together data from the summer season bookings to show which places are skyrocketing in popularity compared to last year and will be this summer’s trendiest spots. The city sitting at the top of the list might very well surprise you— ever heard of Valenciennes?
The city in northern France, historically renowned for its lace, is followed by Changsha in China, the capital of the country’s Hunan province. Closing up the top three is another eastern Asia destination— the Japanese city of Matsudo. The only reason to find out why are these cities popping up on the map is to join the people booking a stay there and find out.
If Valenciennes is the most popular city, then the most popular country of the summer will definitely be Puerto Rico— the Caribbean island occupies three spots on the list, with Dorado at number six, Vieques at number seven and Río Grande at number eight.
Solo travellers are not booking their stays that far away from Puerto Rico, since Airbnb’s data show that the most in-demand destinations are Mexico (especially in the region of Baja California) and the southern US states like Florida, Texas and California. Finally, families are either going for a relaxing beach vacation or an adventurous holiday, with no in between— the trending destinations for them are areas of huge naturalistic interest like Canada and Utah but also European countries famous for their sunny coasts like Greece and Turkey.
Have these destinations helped you clear your mind on where you will go this summer?
