With Memorial Day around the corner, many travellers are looking to kick off the summer season with a camping trip – and if you’re the type who likes to book your adventures on-the-go, a new app might help.
Hipcamp, an online campsite booking website, has launched its new mobile app, which will allow users to find and book camping, glamping and RV sites in more than 300,000 spots around the US. Guests can stay on private lands like vineyards, ranches and farms, or get more detailed information on public parks – and even spots to stay close to the most popular national parks around the country.
While Hipcamp is similar to Airbnb in that it allows landowners to rent out their private space, it also recently became the first platform to show campsite availability from Recreation.gov, a website that allows users to book federal campsites. If all the government-run sites are booked up, users can check out private, and “one-of-a-kind” camping spots, or even treehouses, cabins and more.
For those who wants something specific, the app allows users to filter campsites and lodging for requirements including price, group size, structure type, pet-friendliness, amenities like toilets or outdoor kitchens, and access to activities such as hiking, fishing, and surfing. The Hipcamp app is now available on iOS through the App Store and will be coming soon to Android.
If you’re looking for even more options, the campsite booking site Tentrr also recently added a new ‘backcountry’ option for travellers looking for a more rustic option.
