A new hotel that is planned for Mexico’s Riviera Maya is going to be dedicated to the pursuit of happiness and nourishing the soul. Guests at Awakening Hotel will stay in “human cocoons,” which combine elements of a beach cabin and a treehouse and mimic nature’s shapes and forms.

The hotel will open in 2020 and will be located in the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula, on the banks of the Nopalitos Lagoon. It is the brainchild of partners Adriana Chardí and Martin Loeffler, whose aim is to create a hotel that has spectacular architectural design and the highest sustainability standards, as well as providing maximum contact with nature. It will be situated next to the Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka’an, which was named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1987.

The hotel aims to provide guests with the opportunity to engage in experiences that promote physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. They can choose the level and depth of their experience, which range from a fun and relaxing vacation to personalised well-being programs, designed by the hotel’s personal development and happiness coaches.
The resort aims to bring guests into contact with the natural world, and wants to provide exclusive experiences in combination with what it calls “barefoot luxury”. “Our version of luxury has nothing to do with marble floors and golden faucets, but revolves around providing a way to experience nature in the most fun and comfortable way possible,” it says.
