Soon you can watch planes take off from a rooftop infinity pool in New York

By Adenekan

If you want to spend your New York City holiday sipping a drink in an infinity pool, soon you won’t even have to leave JFK to do it.

The TWA Hotel – which is opening next month in a defunct, mid-century modern airport terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport – will include a rooftop infinity pool. The pool and observation deck at the incredibly retro hotel will open on 15 May and will be open every day of the year. The hotel has already attracted attention for its 1960s design, but the new pool will likely pique the interest of even the most modern travellers. The 63-by-20-foot infinity edge pool will be there to cool down visitors during the hot summers, but in winter it will become a “pool-cuzzi”, which can be heated to stay warm.

According to the hotel, the pool is inspired by the infinity pool at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, France. But while that pool overlooks the Mediterranean, this one will look over a runway at JFK with views that stretch to Jamaica Bay.

The pool – and the 10,000-square-foot observation deck that accompanies it – has a view of one of biggest runways at JFK, which is the fifth-busiest airport in the US. Guests will be able to watch as jets take off and land, but according to the hotel, the deck is surprisingly quiet despite all the activity.

In case you’re wondering if this will be the sort of infinity pool you can enjoy with a drink in hand, the answer is, of course, yes. There will be a pool bar that will even serve food. Guests will be able to use the pool when staying at the hotel, but non-hotel guests will also be able to make a reservation. You can even throw a private pool party at the The Pool Bar & Observation Deck, which can host up to 300 people. Find out more on the official website.
