This funky Tube-themed hotel in London is open for business

By Adenekan

There are few designs more iconic – or beloved – than London’s colourful Tube map. Now one hotel has honoured the transport system with funky 60s decor throughout the building.

The newly-renovated Ibis Styles hotel on Gloucester Road has celebrated the design with little touches and attention to detail throughout the building. In the common areas, the colour scheme is definitely reminiscent of the map, with oranges, blues, yellows and reds.

There are black and white vintage photos of close-ups of Tube lines and stations. Who knew the humble escalator could look so fancy? The bar boasts a light-up Underground sign and even is surrounded with the familiar olive green and white tiles that brighten up so many stations.

The Tube design theme continues into the bedrooms too. Prints name-checking famous stations adorn the walls, as does Tube-themed artwork. The TV is surrounded by the soft corner lines synonymous with the map. Even the carpet has ‘Mind the Gap’ written on it, complete with yellow lines. With an eagle eye, you can find many more nods to London’s transport system dotted around the hotel.

The location is also perfect for people wanting to immerse themselves in the London experience. It’s close to Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park and within walking distance of the Science Museum and the V&A. Fittingly, it’s also just a few steps away from its own Tube station; Gloucester Road.
