Bob Dylan is opening a whisky distillery alongside a concert venue and arts centre in Nashville

By Adenekan

Last year it was announced that singer Bob Dylan was set to launch his very own whiskey line, Bob Dylan’s Heaven’s Door Whiskeys. Now the spirits company has revealed that the distillery will open in Nashville in 2020, alongside an arts centre for the public.

Dylan launched his signature collection of whiskeys last summer in partnership with liquor entrepreneur Marc Bushala. The line features three different spirits: a Tennessee straight bourbon, a double barrel whiskey and a rye whiskey. “You don’t always find inspiration,” the Nobel laureate said in a press release at the time. “Sometimes it finds you. We wanted to create a collection of American whiskeys that would each tell a story.”

Now that story will be told at the Heaven’s Door Distillery and Centre for the Arts in Nashville, Tennessee. Open to the public, the space will include a distillery, a 360-seat concert venue and a restaurant. Intriguingly the space will also feature a whiskey library and an art centre which will display metal sculptures and other visual artwork created by Dylan. It’s set to open in Elm Street Church, a historic building which dates all the way back to 1871 in downtown Nashville.

It follows the news that a museum dedicated to Dylan’s 60-year career will open in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2021, featuring a priceless collection of more than 100,000 items spanning Dylan’s career from personal notes to photographs and film to song recordings. Located in the Tulsa Arts District, the Bob Dylan Center will also interact closely with two separate facilities relating to the musician: The Bob Dylan Archive at the University of Tulsa’s Gilcrease Museum, and the university’s Institute for Bob Dylan Studies.

The legendary songwriter is currently on an international tour this summer. In the meantime, his handwritten song lyrics and some of his artwork will be on display in a new exhibit at the Gilcrease Museum, to whet fans’ appetite ahead of all the exciting new openings.
