There’s no doubt that Keanu Reeves is pretty awesome. He’s renowned for his kindness to fans and colleagues and for his low-key involvement in philanthropic work. Now he’s made headlines again by proving to be cool under pressure during a travel ordeal this weekend.
Keanu was a passenger on a United Airlines flight this Saturday from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Bakersfield due to a mechanical issue and landed safely but people were then faced with a two-hour drive to their destination.

Stepping into the everyday hero role, Keanu took the lead dealing with the airline staff and clarifying the situation to the stranded passengers. They had to choose between waiting three hours for their bags, then being driven to LA or opting to leave within the hour and get their luggage delivered later.
The Matrix actor chose to wait for the luggage and ended up in the same van as Brian Rea, a New York Times illustrator who had been recording the situation on his Instagram Stories. To pass the time, Keanu decided to be excellent to everyone and entertain them with facts about Bakersfield (it has a population of 380,000 by the way) and play some local music from his phone.
Ultimately, all the passengers reached their destination after a long day and a once-in-a-lifetime celebrity encounter. Since the story has hit the headlines, Brian has made the excellent suggestion to continue the generous spirit of Keanu and donate to some of the many charities he supports, some of which he has listed on his full Instagram post here.
