Outstanding in the Field has put together its 2019 schedule of adventurous table-to-farm events, which will take place at grass-fed ranches and creameries, vegetable farms and fruit orchards, olive groves and date gardens, and sandy beaches and trellised vineyards.

During Outstanding in the Field, guests sit along a single long table outdoors at the site, and enjoy a communal meal at the source of the ingredients on the menu. It was founded in 1999 by artist/chef Jim Denevan as a radical alternative to the conventional dining experience.

Rather than source ingredients and bring them to the restaurant, Jim’s vision was to create a restaurant at the source, where guests could enjoy a communal meal and the farmer’s story would be told and celebrated.

Now in its 20th year, Outstanding in the Field has staged more than 1000 table-to-farm events in all 50 US states and in 15 countries around the globe. Hundreds of chefs around the world have cooked in the OITF field kitchen.

The touring season runs May through November, with a smaller winter tour in January and February to warm-weather spots like Florida, Hawaii and Mexico.

This year, OITF is introducing three street events called Community Table, where the table will be placed down the middle of main streets in Los Angeles, Geneva, New York, and Bisbee, Arizona. Another new feature is that there will be glamping at some events, provided in partnership with Under Canvas.
