Singapore’s Changi International Airport, voted by consumer aviation website Skytrax as the world’s best airport six years running, is set to elevate airport and transit experiences once again with the opening of the multi-dimensional lifestyle destination Jewel on 17 April.
Designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, also responsible for adding the iconic Marina Bay Sands to Singapore’s skyline, this impressive dome-shaped structure will be home to over 280 retail stores and food and beverage outlets, a hotel, as well as a host of entertainment options.
Jewel’s centerpiece will be the awe-inspiring Rain Vortex. Touted to be the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, at 40m high, it will cascade vertically down from the centre of the domed roof. Each evening the waterfall will burst into a dazzling array of colours during nightly light and sound shows.
Surrounding the Rain Vortex, the four-storey garden Forest Valley will showcase one of Singapore’s most extensive collection of indoor plants. Other attractions include suspended walking and bouncing nets, mazes, slides, life-size animal topiary trees and seasonally-changing floral displays at the Petal Garden.
The indoor complex is spread over ten levels – five above ground and five below ground – and is linked to Changi Airport’s Terminal 1 arrival hall and by air-conditioned pedestrian walkways to Terminals 2 and 3. Jewel at Changi Airport will serve the 65.5 million passengers who pass through Changi Airport each year.
