Brussels Airlines has unveiled new inflight experiences they claim to transform their transcontinental flights into a “boutique hotel in the air” and there’s one very exciting addition; a self-service bar showcasing the best of Belgian beer.
The airline has retrofitted an A330 aircraft with a series of new features that have a distinct Art Nouveau-style and a mission to bring a bit of Belgian culture to the skies. Making headlines everywhere has been their new idea for a walk-up bar in Business Class serving eight different beers to guests. There will also be Belgian chocolates, wine and coffee on offer.
Business Class passengers will also be served a four-course meal created by Thierry Theys, a Belgian Michelin-starred chef. There are just 30 seats of this class onboard, meaning there’ll be plenty of privacy, though you can use the bar area if you would like to mingle with other guests.
It’s not just the top tier tickets that will be getting an overhaul. The airline is adding a premium economy class to flights, complete with relaxing ambient lighting, more leg and reclining room, a large screen for in-flight entertainment and an “upgraded culinary experience” including ice-cream as a snack. The economy seats will also be upgraded for more comfort.
The first refurbished aircraft will take off in April 2019 and the move reflects a wider trend in the airline industry to put more emphasis on the most expensive tickets, as well as creating more premium economy seats.
