In celebration of International Women‘s Day on Friday 8 March, Wow Air is inviting people in the US to nominate the special women in their lives. By doing so, the women nominated may be selected to win two flight tickets from the airline to a destination of their choice.
The Iceland-based budget airline is asking people to share stories on Facebook and Instagram about inspiring women in their lives. The best stories will be reposted and each winner will be given two tickets to a Wow destination of her choice. The airline says that it is running the competition because Iceland ranks first in the world for gender equality, and it hopes that this initiative will celebrate the women who positively impact the lives of those around them.

“It was the first country to elect a female president, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, who served four consecutive terms from 1980 to 1996,” it says. “Icelanders also elected the first openly lesbian head of government, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, elected prime minister in 2009. Its second female prime minister, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, has been in office since 2017.”

The airline says that while the aviation industry globally still trails on the issue of gender equality, the women at WOW Air make up 54% of all staff, including 33% of its managers and 83% of its cabin crew. The share of its female pilots, at 7%, is also above average.
Entrants can share stories of the important women in their lives on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #wowwoman and tagging @wowair, and the nomination deadline is Friday 8 March at 11.59am UTC. For further information, see here.
