This weekend, travellers flying from London Stansted Airport will be treated to a mini music festival as the airport hosts a live music showcase with some of the UK’s newest rising stars.
Once, airport lounges were dull spaces for passengers in transit with little to occupy them other than a fast-food restaurant, a suncream stand and a limited duty-free with an uninspiring range of low-cost vices. Now they are transforming themselves into miniature shopping malls, spas and, in the case of London Stansted Airport, a mini music festival.
On Saturday, 2 March, London Stansted will host what it claims is the UK’s first music festival to take place in the departures lounge of an airport. Celebrating local talent, Departures Live will offer flyers a preview of some of the rising stars lined up to perform at the biggest European music festivals this summer.
The line-up includes gospel-Afrobeat duo Lotto Boyzz who will open the festival, performing some of their latest tracks including the platinum hit ‘Bad Vibe’ ahead of their headline tour in April. They’ll be joined by London grime MC and Boy Better Know (BBK) member Jammer, folk-pop act Eliza and the Bear and Brighton indie four-piece The Magic Gang, who will serenade springtime holidaymakers with their breezy guitar hits.
“We’re incredibly excited that some of the UK’s best urban and rock artists such as Jammer and The Magic Gang will be performing at London Stansted this March,” said Lois Robertson, Brand and Marketing Manager at Stansted Airport. “Departures Live will see us celebrate some of the finest local musical talent and we’re delighted that many of our travellers will get a first glimpse at some of their favourite acts ahead of their various appearances during this summer’s European Festival season.”
Departures Live will take place from 2pm until 6pm on Saturday, 2 March. For more information, see here.
