Visit each of the seven kingdoms of Westeros in this Game of Thrones bar

By Adenekan

Game of Thrones is set for its eighth and final run as the HBO fantasy series draws to an end this year. In anticipation of the final season, a Chicago bar has been transformed into the seven kingdoms of Westeros for a totally immersive Game of Thrones experience.

Replay Lincoln Park is a popular arcade bar in downtown Chicago. This winter it’s been transformed into an immersive Game of Thrones pop-up experience, complete with backdrops and props that look like they’ve been lifted straight from the HBO set. Fans can explore Winterfell, the Wall at Casterly Rock, Highgarden and a Dothraki camp, take pictures in the Throne Room, near the Wall of Faces or with White Walkers, and spend the night with dragons who will hopefully hold their fire.

Replay will host a variety of themed-events during the pop-up, including a “Red Wedding” feast, a jousting competition, and Game of Thrones trivia every Thursday. Specialty cocktails, including a “Dothaquiri” and mead on tap will be introduced, and the bar is also collaborating with Ommegang Brewery – the brewery that makes the official Game of Thrones beers – offering limited quantities of their exclusive themed brews.

Artist collective Pop Up Squad created the concept, décor and artistic elements of Replay’s pop-up.  Artist Raquel Hung told Lonely Planet Travel News the team are all big fans of the HBO show but their ultimate goal is to create immersive experiences for the Chicago community.

“Chicago winters can be brutal and boring, so for this pop-up we were really striving to create a totally immersive environment for people to experience while escaping the cold. The idea is for you to feel as if you’ve stumbled upon some fantastical world, which is quite tricky since the bar is so large and there’s so much space to be filled. We really did re-create an entire other reality right in our beloved Chicago community, and we want it to be a place where people can come escape from the cold, have a drink, and feel a bit of magic for a couple hours!” “

Admission to the pop-up is free, but for the first time ever, Replay will introduce a VIP ticket package, which will include a keepsake goblet, a commemorative print, and express entry to the bar for US$20 (€17.61).The pop-up is scheduled to run until 3 March, 2019. For more information, see here.
