Kuşadası, a town on Turkey’s western Aegean coast, is popular as a package-tour destination and many travellers pass through, as it is the coastal gateway to Turkey’s busiest cruise port, Ephesus. Now, the town has seen more than 400 homes revitalised as part of a community project called “Let’s Colour” by AkzoNobel’s Marshall paint brand. The now-rainbow homes are in a neighbourhood called Tepe, which sits high on a hill and was chosen for its visibility. The makeover is already attracting notice from visitors.

Kuşadası Mayor Özer Kayalı said in a statement: “This is a crucial location for us, as it’s the first place seen by tourists when they arrive at Kuşadası port. It makes for a striking panorama, which is why we believe this project will make a great contribution to our community.” The project will be complete by April and is just one part of nearly 2300 “Let’s Colour” projects that have been completed around the world.

Colourful makeovers have attracted attention to a number of amazing places around the world recently. Wonosari village in Semarang, Indonesia previously made headlines after the government helped fund a rainbow makeover, drawing in visitors who wanted to take photos for social media.

In Malaysia, the steps leading up to Batu Caves, a famous Hindu temple near Kuala Lumpur, were given a rainbow colour scheme. The bright colours certainly made it popular with travellers who wanted to take photos at the site, but the change did stir up a bit of controversy at the designated heritage site.
